Each year our family bakes "Easter Bread". It is an old Italian tradition that we enjoy a lot!

A dear neighbor brought us one of those on Easter Sunday when we first moved into our house 21 years ago. I haven't seen any like it since, so I'm delighted to find out more about them.
Can you share your recipe, or is it a family secret?
Oooh, looks good! I think Raquelle made something like that a few years back. Maybe we should start the tradition in our family too! :D

Okay, Okay... First of all, this is not a difficult bread to make - especially if you are used to making bread! We just take a regular plain bread recipe, add a little extra sweetener, and add a couple of eggs in place of an equal amount of water which is already called for in your recipe, and you have the bread dough you need. If you'd like you can also replace part or all of the oil with melted butter.
Knead like usual.
Simply roll the dough into a large rectangle. Cut the rectangle lengthwise into three long strips. Shape those strips into ropes. Braid the ropes. Turn the braid into a wreath shape. Nestle colored eggs (they don't have to be hard-boiled first) deep into the dough. Then let rise, and bake as a regular bread recipe would call for.

Wow! The bread looks great but the kids--they are too big. :) Where does the time go? How handsome you look Joseph. And Joanna what a lovely young lady ! (Now we are starting to sound like long lost aunts and uncles or something).
